shame - painful feelings - shadow -copy - selection - rejection - deminishing - control
Shame is a quiet shadow, hides in lowered eyes, unspoken truth, its a distance between who we are and who we should be. Beneath its darkness lives the desire to be seen without being rejected, to be know without being diminished.
Behind the process of creation of this series of multilayers drawings is idea to select from sketches parts I like the most and create copies of this characters. Twisted irony of transparent paper helps to mix it up.
While working on this series I was thinking of shaming as instrument of power - shame based on sex, status, nationality or religious differences is blooming in everyday communication more than artificial flowers in galleries of modern art. Is it worth to copy others and turn on mimicking on max to avoid this unpleasant feeling? Everyone decides for themselves. One is clear: the history of shame in societies is like history of wars - always there. According to theory of evolution that should lead us to the neccessity of regulative function of it for human race to survive. Do we need to feel pain of being different in order to adjust ourselfs to each other, in order to survive as group, keep together and be strong? is the danger of being different is still punished with outcasting and possible death?
